Leg Bands

Poultry leg bands help you tell look-alike birds apart and track things like age, breed, laying history, or vaccines.

Choose the right size (not tight, not loose), and use snap or spiral bands for easy on/off. To put one on, hold the hen calmly, open the band, slip it over the toes, and rest it on the lower leg above the foot—then click or wrap it closed. You should be able to slide a fingertip under the band; check weekly (chicks grow fast!) and replace if it gets snug or dirty. Used correctly, leg bands are safe and make record-keeping simple.
