Grower Feed

Grower feed is for the “teen” stage—after starter and before layer—when young birds are called pullets (females) and cockerels (males).

Use it from about 6–8 weeks old until 16–18 weeks (or when a pullet lays her first egg). It has balanced protein and lower calcium than layer feed to protect young kidneys and bones, plus vitamins and minerals for healthy feathers. When your pullet lays her first egg, switch her to layer feed; cockerels should stay on grower or an all-flock feed because they don’t need extra calcium. Choose crumbles or pellets and keep the feed dry and fresh.
