Large Waterers

Want to stop refilling water every day? Large poultry waterers let your flock drink for days at a time.

As a quick guide (in normal weather): 6–10 hens → 2–3 gal (often 2–3 days), 10–15 hens → 3–5 gal (about 2–4 days), 20–30 hens → 5–8 gal (about 2–4 days), 30–50 hens → 8–10+ gal or two waterers (about 2–3 days). In hot weather, birds drink more—add a second waterer, set it in the shade, and plan to top off sooner; in cold weather, use a heated waterer so it won’t freeze. Keep the waterer a few inches off the ground (nipples/cups at chest height) and clean weekly so the water stays fresh.
