Use it as a treat only, not a full feed—keep it to about 10% of the diet. It’s handy in winter for extra energy and to keep hens active; in hot weather, give smaller amounts and offer it in the evening. Chicks should stay on starter feed; if you give a tiny bit of scratch, make sure they also have grit so they can grind it. Always keep fresh water and a complete feed (layer or grower) available.
