Chicken Feed (Starter/Grower/Layer)

Knowing When to Give the Right Kind of Feed to Your Birds

Chicken feed comes in three types used by age: start chicks on Starter from hatch to about 6–8 weeks, switch to Grower from about 6–16(–18) weeks as they near laying age, then move to Layer once the first eggs appear (around 16–18+ weeks). Choose crumbles for small beaks and pellets for bigger birds, and keep feed fresh and dry. When changing feeds, mix old and new for 5–7 days to avoid tummy upset.
