Nesting Herbs

Nesting herbs are dried plant mixes you sprinkle in nest boxes to keep them fresh and cozy.

Use a small handful when you set up boxes, after you clean, or anytime the coop smells stuffy. Blends often include lavender, mint, oregano, chamomile, rosemary, thyme, lemongrass, or marigold—they smell nice, can help calm hens, and may encourage laying in the right spot. Many keepers also find they help discourage some bugs like flies, mites, and lice, but herbs are a helper—not a cure—so still clean often and use proper treatments if pests show up. Sprinkle over shavings or a nest pad once a week; don’t use strong essential oils, and keep boxes dry for the best results.
