Quail Hatching Eggs — What to Expect

Quail eggs are tiny—about the size of a large grape or a big marble—so they warm up and hatch faster than chicken eggs. Most Coturnix quail hatch in about 17–18 days, while Bobwhite types take around 23–24 days. When eggs arrive, let them rest pointy-end down for 12–24 hours, then set them in a clean incubator at about 99–100°F with steady humidity.

Turn the eggs 3–5 times a day until the last 3 days (“lockdown”), then stop turning and raise humidity a bit. Not every shipped egg will hatch—that’s normal—but with good temperature, humidity, and clean equipment, you can expect a fun, fast hatch and tiny chicks ready for a warm brooder, fresh water, and starter feed.
